Your decision depends on what you are looking for in the area you want to live.
If you’re looking for a beach home, check out Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel Island, Siesta Key, Captiva Island, Useppa Island, and Marco Island. All these areas have plenty of fantastic food and shopping. You will fully experience beach life. If you want to rent or buy a boat, these areas are great for doing so. Many homes are along the water, or you can keep your boat at a harbor nearby. These cities are also not too far from other areas that are more metropolitan.
If you would like to live near more arts and culture, you may like Fort Myers, Sarasota, Naples, or Bradenton. All four areas have historic downtown districts featuring various museums and theatres. Fort Myers is home to the Edison and Ford Winter Estates, Florida Repertory Theatre, and Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre. Sarasota has the Ringling Museum alongside Asolo Repertory Theatre. Artis-Naples, TheatreZone, and Gulfshore Playhouse are a few of the theatres in Naples. Bradenton has the Village of the Arts, with shops, cafes, and galleries. It also has a few different aquariums and museums.
Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, and Naples are popular choices if you want to live in a luxurious community. Each city has upscale living near plenty of dining and shopping options. In addition, they all offer various country clubs and expansive golf courses.
The cities best known for shopping and dining are Bonita Springs, Fort Myers, Estero, and Naples. Within these locations, you will find:

Downtown Naples holds the luxurious Fifth Avenue South. Fifth Avenue has upscale restaurants, shopping, and more. Downtown Fort Myers has the Historic River District, with many restaurants and shops. These are beautiful areas to walk around and shop in. They offer a unique selection of stores and restaurants in each one.
If you want more fishing and nature, check out Port Charlotte/Charlotte Harbor, Punta Gorda, Everglades City, and Clewiston. These areas all have lots of places to fish and explore nature. This makes them great options if those are your interests.
If you are a fan of baseball, hockey, or basketball, you may want to check out Fort Myers and Estero. The Boston Red Sox holds spring training at JetBlue Park. The Minnesota Twins have spring training at Hammond Stadium. Both are in Fort Myers. The Florida Everblades play at Hertz Arena in Estero. Hertz Arena hosts other events such as concerts when there is not a hockey game. Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers and Alico Arena in Estero host college sports.
Cape Coral is a part of Southwest Florida where many families are choosing to live. There are many schools and houses to choose from. It is typically more family-friendly than other areas of Southwest Florida. It is less known for its shopping, but it still has many stores and entertainment and dining options. It isn’t too far from other areas of Southwest Florida, but it is a more separate location. If you have or are a student entering college, Estero is home to Florida Gulf Coast University. Fort Myers has Florida SouthWestern State College.
